Japan Population Centers

Population centers around the world develop for a variety of reasons. Furthermore, often these population centers are more than just big cities, they are megaopolis centers with massive populations and massive production and consumption requirements. Identify the population centers of your region identifying their extent, location, reason for existence and uniqueness for their country. How or why did they come about. What unique circumstances contributed to their development. Be sure to find a good map indicating the population distribution of your region they will be more than one center in each instance.

Geographic Distinctives and Defining Feature

Now that you have developed your own personal definition of the location of your country, I want you to tell me those distinctives that are specific to the nation and then those features that are unique for the country. For example, Japan has the geographic distinctive of being islands off the coast of China

with one of the defining features that is unique only to Japan being Mount Fuji (Fujiyama). Many countries are islands off the coast of China, but only Japan has Mt Fuji and when you see a picture of rice paddies with people replanting rice that could be any where in Asia (Taiwan, Philipines Hainan, Japan) but if they are standing with Mount Fuji in the background only Japan has that unique and defining feature (Mount Fuji). Geographic Definition

The first step in any regional study is to define the region's geographical location. Locate several authoritative sources that describe the location of your region. Go to several maps and corroborate the source's definition of the location of your country. Write your own definition of the geographic location of your country and post it as a comment on this page. Read some of your classmate's definitions and see if you might want to refine your definition. Finally, place a link to a chart or map that you feel most demonstrates your definition. Japan Blog

Today (December 1st) all TMO classes start a blogging exercise examining various aspects of three Asian nations (China/Japan/India ) that have a significant impact upon U.S. economic and political affairs. Each blogging exercise will require students to find and evaluate information in order to develop individual answers that will be posted at the blog. Each answer must be substantiated with a source of information and evaluated/comprehended by the submitting student. Other students and the instructor will comment upon postings, so be sure that replies are well thought out.
