Geographic Distinctives and Defining Feature

Now that you have developed your own personal definition of the location of your country, I want you to tell me those distinctives that are specific to the nation and then those features that are unique for the country. For example, Japan has the geographic distinctive of being islands off the coast of China

with one of the defining features that is unique only to Japan being Mount Fuji (Fujiyama). Many countries are islands off the coast of China, but only Japan has Mt Fuji and when you see a picture of rice paddies with people replanting rice that could be any where in Asia (Taiwan, Philipines Hainan, Japan) but if they are standing with Mount Fuji in the background only Japan has that unique and defining feature (Mount Fuji). Download some pictures of defining features of your country.

  2. A cool feature in Japan is Fuji Five Lakes located at the foot of Mount Fuji. They were created by the previous eruptions of Mount Fuji. Another point of interest is Aokigahara, also known as the Sea of Trees, it is a forest that lies at the base of Mount Fuji in Japan. The caverns found in this forest are rocky and ice-covered annually. It has been claimed by local residents and visitors that the woods are host to a great amount of paranormal phenomena.

When the leaves begin to change the Japanese call it the time of "maple leaf viewing." During the spring they say the same for the Sakura (Cherry blossoms.)Japan in the spring and in the fall is a vast land of red.

  10. Since Japan is a country made of islands it has many features not a lot of other land masses posses. Its cool climate makes it a great place for growing worldwide famous gardens. In these garden's lie a beautiful kind of tree. A cherry blossom. Cherry blossom's are such an amazing creation because they only bloom once a year for a week, if the temperature is prefect. Even the lightest spring rain can totally ruin these delicate soft pink flowers. Another feature that only Japan posses is the volcano Kagoshima. It only has errupted once but rumbles quite a lot. It is a beautiful mountain/volcano to take pictures with.

  11. Torii gate at Miyajima

The gate only appears to be floating at high tide; when the tide is low, the gate is surrounded by mud and can be accessed by foot from the island. It is common practice for visitors to place coins in the cracks of the legs of the gate and make a wish. Gathering shellfish near the gate is also popular at low tide. At night, powerful lights on the shore illuminate the gate.

Retaining the purity of the shrine is so important that since 1878, no deaths or births were permitted at the shrine. To this day, burials on the island are still forbidden.

  12. The Tsujunkyo Bridge

Largest stone aqueduct bridges in Japan.
Built in 1854 with contributions from local farmers this simple but elegant bridge was designed to bring water to the area for irrigation. before the aqueduct was built, not only was it difficult to farm because the water supply was inadequate, but the local people were unable to get enough daily drinking water.

76 meters long and 21 meters high, width of 6.3 m (6.9 yd.) and a length of 75.6 m (83.2 yd.). The arch diameter is 28.2 m (31 yd.), which gives the structure a maximum height of 20.2 m (22.2 yd.) over the Todoroki River in Yabe Town. The aqueduct carries water in 3 channels. Ducts in the sides of the bridge can be opened to clean the channels, resulting in a spectacular discharge of water into the ravine below.

Starting with the 210 km/h (130 mph) Tōkaidō Shinkansen in 1964, the network (2,459 km or 1,528 miles) has expanded to link most major cities on the islands of Honshū and Kyūshū at speeds up to 300 km/h. Test runs have reached 443 km/h (275 mph) for conventional rail in 1996, and up to a world-record 581 km/h (361 mph) for maglev trainsets in 2003. Japan also consist of thousands of islands throughout. The Sea of Japan separates the Asian continent from Japan.More than half of the country is Mountainous and covered by forests. Thats amazing! The population of Japan is 125,000,000, including approximately two million foreign residents. thats a lot of people. My brother told me in Tokyo in the malls they have up escalators but no down escalators, so your seven stories up and you have to walk back down. Thats crazy.
